Barriers are most effective when they conform to the surface on which they are applied. It is equally important that a good seal exists to maximize transmission loss. Conformation and seal are extremely difficult to achieve on contoured surfaces. Our Barycast® cast-in-place molded parts are custom designed to match the component geometry and tightly seal around edges and pass-throughs. Barycast® molded enclosures are highly effective in reducing noise from components such as diesel engine blocks or oil pans, transmissions, engine covers, firewalls and other 3D surfaces. Barycast® is made from a custom-formulated thermoset polyurethane elastomer often incorporating mounting grommets, heat shields, and molded decouplers. Through casting, the thickness of the barrier can be increased in high noise areas, or decreased in lower noise areas, minimizing the cost and weight of the part. The decoupler and barrier can also be encapsulated to improve the appearance and to decrease the opportunity for moisture or chemical absorption. In 2006, Blachford installed a state-of-the-art automated polyurethane line capable of making a broad range of products. This automated carousel line utilizes robotic stations for shooting and trimming parts and is one of the most advanced of its kind in North America.
